Extract from Cindy Sherman interview
When asked about her work...
"ive never meant to show who the real person is. Im not interested in revealing anything of myself. which is why i use alot of artifical stuff. Its not meant to be revelatory. I like to use a camera. Also I didnt want to project my own narrative onto what somebody else is going to look at. I wanted them to come up with their own narrative. I never wanted to hit somebody over the head with the message. if you dont get it, you dont get it ....."
"Human figures create intrigue, atmosphere and narrative, regardless of the story behind the person. We are a group of artists who utilise this fact and by avoiding the depth of portraiture’s history; we simply aim to use the figure (be it literal or abstract) to create a story authored by the viewer. The results of this exploration can be seen in our forth coming exhibition Presence in Unit H, Market Studios, Dublin, opening 10th December 7pm and closing December 12th 7pm."
